Amber Hands by S.C.U.M

Reminds me of a polished version of some 80s punk. Really like the sound on this one.

I want to start sharing some more music, and Tumblr is a nice place to do that—plus, this blog was just lying around anyway.

This is a current favorite that reminds me of Copenhagen, Distortion, sun, friends and all-around great musical niceness.

Give it a spin.

This is still my favorite quote.

(Also, it’s nice that people seem to appreciate the wallpaper I made.)

I need to watch Arrested Development again soon.

“Where Are You Go” is a documentary about three guys doing the longest competitive cycling race in the world: Tour d’Afrique.

It lasts four months—7,000 miles from Cairo to Cape Town.

Favorite part of the trailer is the australian guy who has never had a bicycle before (!).

“College is not about learning a craft, it is about learning how to think. You will be disappointed when you get older. You will find this world is full of people too afraid or ill-equipped to think for themselves; they huddle in corners holding signs they don’t understand and jobs they don’t want. Don’t do that. Promise me you won’t. There are brave and brillant people changing this world and it has nothing to do with where they went to college.”

James Nord gives advice to a reader on his way to college.

Best Album By Sweaty Mashup Artist

Girl Talk — All Day

Girl Talk — All Day

One of my all-time best concerts took place at Roskilde a few years ago. My friend, Kristoffer, and I had just seen a spectacular show by the Danish ghetto tech band, “Albertslund Terror Korps” and walked to see Girl Talk play. What hit us is still undefined, but it was a mixture of sweat, alcohol, festival mood, mashups, Greg Gillis and lots and lots of old classics.

This year, Greg aka. Girl Talk, released the newest album in the series of mashup compilations, called “All Day”. You can download it for free, and I strongly encourage you to do so.

The perfect companion to the party tonight.

Safe travels, and here’s to a happy 2011.

Best Soundtrack In A Year With Surprisingly Many Great Soundtracks

Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross — The Social Network

Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross — The Social Network

Not only is The Social Network one of my favorite movies from 2010, the soundtrack is both an absolutely phenomenal companion to the visuals as well as a great album in itself. It works wonders for your appreciation of the soundtrack to watch the movie, but it works just as well as a stand-alone album.

2010 also saw great albums (and movies) such as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and TRON: Legacy, and it seems that the movie studios have been focusing more on releasing innovative scores and original music. I’d love to see that development continue in 2011.

A perfect album for getting ready for a big day tomorrow.

The “Radiohead for Haiti”-concert has been edited by a bunch of tapers with permission from Radiohead. You can download the whole thing or just watch it embedded above.

The sound is not 100% perfect as it’s taped, not taken directly from the soundboard, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t very, very good.

Best Album From Hip-Hop Artist That Is Somewhat Pop, Somewhat Obscure, Way Overrated And Somehow Still Great

Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

One of this year’s biggest mysteries is how Kanye West scored a perfect 10 on Pitchfork. A score usually reserved for Radiohead, re-issues of 80s rock albums and Wilco. The review is worth reading, if only for the author’s attempts at comparing Kanye with Michael Jackson, while still maintaining Kanye comes nowhere near The King of Pop.

I mean, this album is more than just great. It explores the boundaries between pop, hip-hop, sample-driven neo-soul and whatever you want to call the stuff Kanye does. The whole album is filled with surprising twists and turns without ever making the listener doubt that this is Kanye’s work.

But a perfect 10? Not in my book. That shouldn’t make you not listen to it, however—it’s still a great album and it grows with every listen.

Impossibly cool.
